Central Michigan? Western Kentucky? In same bowl game? Now that’s pretty funny

Almost fell out of my chair with laughter earlier today after I decided it was time to pay attention to college football’s terrible postseason.

I’m sure neighbors down the street thought I was watching a hilarious comedy when I exploded with laughter upon seeing who would be facing off in Wednesday’s Little Caesars Bowl.

Central Michigan? A 6-6 Mid-American Conference squad that had to win its final three games just to reach. 500? The Chippewas?

Now that is pretty funny.

Western Kentucky? A 7-5 Sun Belt Conference team that eked out a one-point victory over North Texas in its regular-season finale to avoid its fourth loss in six games? The Hilltoppers?

That is quite comical.

Western Kentucky coach Willie Taggart gladly beat it out of town for another gig after notching that win over the Mean Green.

Then the school made sure it would be known as a joke nationally by hiring Mr. Ethics and Integrity himself in Bobby Petrino as Taggart’s replacement.

Nothing humorous about that choice. That is pretty sad.

There’s nothing to smile about when you hire the disgraced coach that cost himself the Arkansas gig. Just displays how desperate the school is to join the big boys of the college football world.

So you have to admit, pairing these two teams to play one another is just hilarious.

Makes you wonder what ingredients Little Caesars puts in those awful pizzas they serve if they are gladly associating their name with these clowns.

I typically don’t pay much attention to pre-Christmas Day bowl games – the Poinsettia Bowl is the lone one I watched this year – but I may need to push that date back in the future.

I’m sure the Thursday slate might be a better time to pay attention with the Holiday Bowl featuring Baylor and UCLA on the schedule.

But I better check to make sure … (here is where you picture my fingers furiously clicking on the college schedule links) … (now picture me taking a sip of Diet Coke) … oh, found it … uh oh.

San Jose State against Bowling Green in the Military Bowl? Ohio – that’s the real Ohio, not the one Michigan coach Brady Hoke denigrates by calling it by that name – against Louisiana-Monroe in the Independence Bowl? Minnesota – that’s the Golden Gophers, not the Vikings – playing Texas Tech in the Meineke Car Care Bowl?

Perhaps I should wait until Jan. 1 to pay attention to bowl games.

Oh wait, then I will miss USC’s game. Good job, good effort Lane Kiffin by leading the most talented squad in the nation to the freaking Sun Bowl in dreadful El Paso.

That is even sadder than somebody thinking it is a good idea to match Central Michigan and Western Kentucky in the same bowl game.
