San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie is one of the softest defensive players in the NFL when it comes to contact and being a hard hitter.

But he delivered a hard-hitting shot against the team’s training camp food and was fined $2,500 by the organization, according to a popular football Web site.

According to profootballtalk.com, Cromartie used Twitter to complain about the quality of the food. (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/04/source-chargers-fine-cromartie-for-twitter-complaint/) The most amusing comment of Cromartie’s “tweet” was his apparent reference to the food perhaps being the reason why the team can’t win a Super Bowl.

That steam you see hovering over Murphy Canyon right now is blowing upward from general manager A.J. Smith’s head.

The Chargers’ window for the current group of players to reach a Super Bowl is closing rapidly. Seeing there is dissension over things such as free food (nope, the team doesn’t invite media to eat the catered food) and you can just imagine a long list of starvation excuses if the team gets off to its third straight slow start under soft head coach Norv Turner.

Perhaps the Chargers ought to use the $2,500 they take from Cromartie to provide $2,500 of free food to a homeless shelter or some other worthy entity.

  1. NFL Picks says:

I cannot believe he got fined for this. CHad Johnson should be in for like 5 mill if this deserves 2500.
